Shaping the Future of Raw Materials: The Legacy of DigiEcoQuarry

DigiEcoQuarry, the groundbreaking Horizon 2020 project funded by the European Commission and coordinated by ANEFA, will conclude with a high-impact final workshop held at the headquarters of Aggregates Europe – UEPG in Brussels (Square de Meeûs 40). This event will bring together key stakeholders from across the raw materials sector to reflect on the project’s innovations, outcomes, and long-term legacy.

Under the title Shaping the Future of Raw Materials: The Legacy of DigiEcoQuarry, the workshop will showcase how advanced digital solutions are transforming the aggregates industry, driving a transition towards more sustainable, efficient, and intelligent quarrying operations. The full-day programme will offer a dynamic combination of expert-led sessions, thematic discussions, and networking opportunities. The event will begin with a concise introduction providing an overview of DigiEcoQuarry’s vision, development, and collaborative achievements.

Advancing Digital Integration and Sustainability in the Quarrying Sector

The agenda will then delve into the technological foundations that have enabled smarter, digitally enhanced quarry operations, followed by a networking break where participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas informally. The following session will focus on operational excellence through digital integration, exploring how real-time data, automation, and artificial intelligence are reshaping operational workflows to improve safety, productivity, and sustainability.

In the afternoon, the discussion will shift towards implementation, addressing the scalability of the project’s results, their adoption across Europe, and alignment with current and future policy frameworks. The day will conclude with final reflections from the project’s coordinators, who will underscore DigiEcoQuarry’s contribution to a more resilient, greener extractive industry.

While the workshop is primarily an in-person event, it will also be available to a global audience via a live webinar. Interested participants can register online through the official Zoom link.

Funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 101003750), DigiEcoQuarry has involved multiple pilot sites and engaged stakeholders across the continent. The project has demonstrated the enormous potential of digital transformation in addressing the dual challenge of environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness within the raw materials sector. This final event is not only a celebration of what has been achieved but also a launchpad for future collaboration and innovation throughout Europe and beyond.
